Beach Haven, Auckland, Auckland
Hello my name is Jana and I live in Beach Haven with 2 of my 4 sons. We have been in the area for 15 plus years now and would love to welcome your little one into our home. I have been working as an Educator since the beginning of 2016 and love this work, it is a great privilege to be caring and learning alongside children and such a lot of fun.
I have trained as a Registered Nurse in New Zealand and Midwife and Health Visitor (similar to a Plunket Nurse) in the UK, where I worked with families and children under 5. I hold a current Child First Aid Certificate, have completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training course and Infant Massage Instructor Course.
I will provide a warm, caring homely environment with lots of rich experiences, activities and creative space for your child both inside and outside and let them take the lead in their play. I regularly rotate toys depending on interest and ages and have found that having fewer out encourages more creative play. I favour toys that do less so the children can get to do more and we do lots of loose parts play. It is wonderful to see how creative the children are with these.
I welcome children and their families into my home and value the relationships my whanau and I build. I believe trust and secure connections are the foundation for successful learning.
I encourage the friendships children make with each other within our small mixed age group. Kindness and caring are important values we share.
I am passionate about respecting and caring for the environment. Being outside in natural environments gives children joy, encouraging wonder and curiosity, growing a love, care and connection with our whenua. Confidence physical skills and strength develop.
I am strongly influenced by the teachings of Magda Gerber and believe that children are capable and competent learners able to communicate from the very earliest days. I observe and listen to give respectful nurturing care.
I celebrate children’s play and recognise that this is where they are exploring, discovering and making sense of the world around them.
To support play I provide open ended resources, loose parts and beautiful natural objects. Freedom to choose, space and time in a calm unhurried environment fosters creative involved play and discovery.
I believe that wonder, enquiry, on going learning and reflection are vital for my continuing growth and development as an Educator. Underpinning this I am guided by the principals of Te Whariki
