Hi I'm Mary! I love working with children and have been a home based educator since early 2014. I have a 7year old son, Joshua, and we have a few small, furry friends with whom we share our home. Please note that hours outside those that are outlined below are negotiable.
On top of my Child First Aid certificate that is renewed every other year, I am experienced and confident in dealing with a range of medical conditions that some children have, including eczema, asthma, hay fever, food allergies, environmental allergies, anaphylaxis, NG tube feeding, and heart conditions.
I believe children learn and grow in their own way, in their own time, and strive to provide a loving, respectful environment to allow them to do so. Strong, loving relationships are the foundation for a joyful life. Through reciprocal, respectful relationships between teacher and child, upholding the principle of tuakana teina, they feel safe to live a life of active exploration and problem solving/risk taking to make meaning of the world around them, and are able to be active contributors in their journey of making sense of this world through relationships and exploration.
By providing children with a wide variety of natural resources and outdoor scenery aids in developing a healthy body, soul and spirit. This provides a rich platform, engaging all the senses, inviting the child to wonder about the world in which they live.
By recognising and nurturing their individual strengths and interests, this provides the child with positive disposition to learning, which will help to develop them as life long learners. This includes providing open-ended materials for children to explore, creating a place where creativity and creative thinking is encouraged and cherished.
I have spaces available now, and look forward to hearing from you!
If children feel safe, they can take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings, and grow.
